Ceremony - First Kiss
Your first kiss as a married couple is such a magical moment, symbolising the start of your new journey together as one. Ensuring this moment is perfect and beautifully captured in your photos requires a bit of planning and practice. So here’s a few tips and tricks to make sure you’re able to make the most of this memorable moment.
Practicing the First Kiss
Practice makes perfect, and this also applies to your first kiss as a married couple too:
Comfort and Confidence: Creating time to practise your first kiss helps make sure it feels and looks more natural and relaxed. Compared to if you to just “wing it”.
Timing: Practice the length of your kiss. A kiss that’s too quick might not be captured perfectly, while a longer kiss can feel awkward. My rough guidance is to aim for around three to five seconds. (this might seem long, but it the whole scheme of your day this is a huge moment you wont want missed).
Leaning in: Know which way you’re both going to lean in can really help avoid awkward situations like nose bumps and hesitations. I always encourage that when you practise your first kiss have a gentle lean in, there’s no need to rush this moment. If anything you may want it to last a life time :)
Hand Placement: Something 9/10 couples forget is where you’ll place your hands. A great rule of thumb is to place your hands each other’s face, waist or shoulders or gently holding hands can always create a simple yet beautiful moment too.
Considering a Mid-Aisle Kiss
Adding a mid-aisle kiss can create another beautiful moment and create a “second” first kiss photo which includes your family and friends in the background if done right:
Plan the Timing: Coordinate with your officiant and photographer if you plan to include a mid-aisle kiss. This ensure’s everyone is on the same page and can be prepared to capture the moment!
Natural Movement: Walk down the aisle naturally then pause for the kiss at a predetermined spot. This allows you both a sec to “reset” and create this magical moment.
Bonus Tips
Communicate with your Officiant: Let your officiant know your plans for the first kiss. They can step aside or give you a cue to ensure the kiss is captured perfectly. I find that getting your Maid of Honour to help out with this makes this one less thing to think/ worry about.
Smile Afterwards: After you and your partner share your first kiss, take a moment to smile, look at each other and your guests and soak it all in :)
This moment you will treasure forever. By practicing the kiss and figure out all the little details to enhance the moment. You will ensure you create a perfect and memorable moment and you will remember for all the right reasons. So breathe, enjoy the moment and celebrate this beautiful moment of your special day!
